The COVID-19 pandemic greatly accelerated the pace of dissemination of non-reviewed research content, such as preprints. How can society benefit fully from a fast paced dissemination of research information? Funders, publishers, and societies are grappling with how to speed up dissemination of research results while maintaining trustworthiness, credibility, and the rigor of peer review. In this session, I will discuss some new initiatives aimed at "enriching" preprints with indicators of quality, value, and provenance: the publication of peer review reports and timelines, the automatic linking of preprints to their Version of Record, and the use of preprints as a vehicle to disseminate supplementary information and other non-traditional research outputs.
